Syferfontein Agri-Village Mixed-use Development

& Urban Designer

Located 27km outside the capital of Limpopo, this 40 hectare Greenfield site has been earmarked by a property developer as a potential mixed-use development offering Residential, commercial and retail spaces.

​

Tasked with bringing life to the developer's vision, the attached urban development report comprehensively covers the development feasibility, the conceptual framework as well as a draft township layout (with urban design perspectives) of the Syferfontein dream.

What began as a response to the requirement of accommodating 500 residential units has evolved into a visionary canvas, housing 1,128 units—a testament to the boundless potential of urban design when guided by purpose and passion.

 

This creative odyssey has reaffirmed the profound impact that urban planning can have on the quality of life and the environment. The core principles of urban greening, compact urbanism, and public space activation have not only shaped the physical landscape but have breathed life into a cohesive and sustainable community.

Lorenzville Urban Design Framework

Role:

Student Urban Planner & Urban Designer

The Eastern Gateway of Johannesburg is home to prominent locally and internationally recognised land marks, such as the Ellis Park Stadium. Unfortunately the area has been subject to negligence in terms of its urban fabric.

This Urban Design Framework (UDF) was created with the goal of combating the aforementioned issues as well as enhancing the overall standard of living by providing jobs, housing, store space and programmable public open spaces.

SPATIAL DEVELOPMENT FRAMEWORK 2050

Role:

Spatial Planner

This SDF looks at the urban periphery of Gauteng's Mogale City, Randfontein & City of Johannesburg municipalities.

 

Agriculture is already the main formal economic activity around this area near mining belt. With varies commercial cultivation farms already in the region, this SDF suggests the creation of an Agricultural District looking to amalgamate local knowledge through pooling skilled workforces together to create a cluster which can stimulate economic growth in the area. This district is supported by smaller wetland cultivation zones for local communities to achieve self-sustinence

CARLTON CENTER REDEVELOPMENT PROPOSAL

Role:

Student Property Developer

This was a real estate market analysis done to determine the optimum use for the vacant & decaying Carlton Center, located in the Central Business District (CBD) of Johannesburg.

​

After a feasibility of a mixed-use building was conducted, the final repurposing plan included a section for a private college in the upper 27 floors with a commercial mall for small businesses in the lower 23 floors.

VOSLOORUS HOSTEL REDEVELOPMENT

Role:

Urban Designer

This was a Conceptual Design Framework for social housing typologies in Vosloorus, Gauteng.  

​

Concepts were made for a variety of green & brownfield sites in an around the Vosloorus area. These concepts formed part of a Hostel Redevelopment Project undertaken by Urban Regenesis Pty Ltd.
